Gilbert and George are a collaborative art duo who are known for their bright graphic-style artworks which addresses social issues, artist conventions and taboos. They once stated that they ‘want an art that is in your face: aggressive. We are confrontational. Freedom of speech, we call it. To say what we want’. The art was often controversial and offensive which they intended to provoke both outrage and laughter. Gilbert and George are one of the most acclaimed artists globally, having won a vast number of awards including the Turner Award. Their work has gone on to influence young British artists such Damien Hirst and our beloved Endless and the have exhibited in galleries worldwide most notable the Tate Modern and the Museum of Modern Art.
